In the past, I’ve always attempted to shoot out an article that has some pertinence to the “local” commercial real estate market. However, with the completion of the 2016 Presidential campaign and Donald Trump’s election, his business interests in real estate are obviously a big (dare I say “HUGE”…) topic. Given that fact, I considered an article on the U.S. real estate market and how his presidency might impact that market to be of significant interest.

I’m not going to get into a discussion about Trump as our President. I’m sure those discussions are many and on-going with, most likely, continued debates having taken place around the Thanksgiving table. There have been many, many analyses, demonstrations, arguments etc about Trump both during and after the election itself with Trump being called, among many other adjectives, “an unqualified megalomaniac” (and that’s from a local columnist). Regardless of your thoughts on his qualifications as our next President, Donald Trump is the son of an extremely successful real estate developer and “The Donald” has also had great personal success in expanding that real estate empire (some will even argue that however).

Of course, anyone involved in the stock market, knows that the President of the United States can and does have a major significant impact on the financial markets. Every word, nuanced or not, does have a bearing on how the market reacts. We may, perhaps, be optimistic that President Donald Trump will be careful in that regards. We shall see.
